Surging Demand for Aquaculture Water Treatment as Professional Purification Technology Drives Ecological Farming Upgrades

In recent years China's freshwater and marine aquaculture industries have developed rapidly. Large-scale, intensive farming has become the mainstream, with output rising steadily — strong support for securing aquatic product supply and increasing farmers' incomes. At the same time, high-density farming brings a series of water environment problems. Residual feed and excreted waste are hard to clear promptly, and long-term accumulation drives ammonia nitrogen and nitrite levels above limits, disrupting the ecological balance of the water body. Harmful microorganisms and algae proliferate, triggering disease outbreaks that affect both the quality and volume of production and cause significant economic losses. High water exchange rates in conventional farming also waste large amounts of water and can introduce external pollutants, further degrading water quality.

For a long time farmers have relied on simple filtration and frequent water exchange. These methods offer insufficient filtration accuracy to capture fine impurities and harmful microorganisms completely, waste substantial water, require laborious maintenance and produce inconsistent results — no longer adequate for large-scale ecological farming. As national environmental requirements for aquaculture tighten and farmers' environmental awareness grows, the industry is accelerating its shift to ecological, green farming. Professional water recirculation and purification systems are becoming standard, and demand for aquaculture water purification is surging.

In aquaculture water purification, new-generation glass media has become the preferred option thanks to its distinctive advantages. It offers high filtration accuracy, effectively capturing residual feed, waste and fine suspended solids, while its self-antibacterial and anti-algae properties suppress harmful microorganisms and reduce disease incidence. Its high solids-holding capacity and resistance to caking and clogging greatly reduce backwash frequency and water changes, saving water and O&M costs. The media is also chemically stable and causes no secondary contamination of the farming water or the aquatic products, matching the requirements of ecological farming. It is now widely used in recirculating farms, pond culture and cage culture, improving the farming water environment, cutting costs and raising incomes for farmers, and supporting the green and sustainable development of the aquaculture industry.
